Stop the damage first, then repair it properly.
Urgent call-outs across inner Melbourne for burst pipes, sewage overflows, gas leaks, failed hot water and flooding. We isolate the water or gas first, then repair the fault properly and explain what caused it.

Make safe first, then work out what failed.
An emergency is anything that is damaging the property, has cut off the water, or makes the building unsafe to use. Measured Plumbing attends those call-outs across inner Melbourne, from a burst supply line under a house to a sewage overflow in an apartment block. The first priority is always the same: get the water or gas off and stop the damage spreading.
Make-safe and repair are kept as two separate stages. Once the property is isolated and stable, we work out what failed and why, then quote the second stage rather than assuming it. Where the fault is accessible and the parts are standard, the repair is usually finished in the same visit. Where it sits under a slab or needs a replacement unit, the scope is confirmed in writing first.
Booked work runs Monday to Friday, 7am to 4pm. Urgent call-outs are taken outside those hours subject to availability, and a phone call gets you a straight answer on timing, including whether another plumber would reach you sooner. Coverage runs from the CBD and Cremorne through the inner east, inner north and bayside suburbs, worked from the Richmond base.
What an emergency plumber actually turns up for.
Anything damaging the property, cutting off the water or making the building unsafe is treated as urgent. It is attended as make-safe first and repair second.
Burst and leaking pipes
Supply lines isolated, exposed and repaired, including old copper that has let go at a joint or pinholed along a run.
Sewage and wastewater overflows
Gullies, floor wastes and toilets cleared to restore flow, then the cause found so the line is safe to use again.
No water to the property
A failed main, a jammed meter valve or a broken supply line traced and the water restored.
Hot water failures
A unit that is leaking, flooding or simply dead gets isolated, then repaired or replaced based on the fault and its age.
Suspected gas leaks
The appliance or line isolated, pressure tested and made safe by a licensed gasfitter before anything is reconnected.
Drains backing up
Blocked drains cleared to get flow back, with the reason for the blockage reported so it can be dealt with.
Taps, cisterns and flexi hoses
Braided hoses and cisterns fail without warning and flood apartments more often than anything else. Swapped out on the spot where parts allow.
Storm flooding
Overwhelmed stormwater lines, blocked pits and surcharging gullies cleared so rain-driven water gets away from the building.
What an urgent call-out covers.
Every urgent visit follows the same order: isolate, make safe, find the cause, then agree the repair.
- Water or gas isolated at the meter or the unit
- Property made safe before repair options are discussed
- The failed component identified and explained
- Same-visit repair where the fault is accessible and parts are standard
- Second-stage repair quoted in writing rather than assumed
- Concealed faults traced with leak detection before walls are opened
- Make-safe, failed parts and affected areas photographed for insurance
- Access protected and the site cleaned before we leave
- Advice on what stops the same failure happening again
- After-hours attendance subject to availability
Houses, apartments, rentals and insured losses.
The property changes who needs to be told, not the order the work happens in.
- 01
Houses, where the usual call is a burst supply line under the floor or an old copper joint that has let go inside a wall.
- 02
Apartments, where a failed flexi hose or cistern floods the unit and the shared riser may need isolating with building management.
- 03
Apartment blocks with a sewage or wastewater overflow, where each flush from any fixture adds to what is coming up until the line is cleared.
- 04
Rental properties, where the tenant isolates the water or gas and the property manager authorises the call-out.
- 05
Properties hit by storm flooding, with overwhelmed stormwater lines, blocked pits and surcharging gullies.
- 06
Insured losses, where the make-safe, the failed component and the affected areas are photographed and written up for the claim.
If you are not sure who should authorise the call-out, isolate first and call anyway. You will get a straight answer on timing and what to do next.
Recent urgent work across the inner suburbs.

What happens when you call.
Make-safe and repair are two stages. The first is immediate. The second is quoted, not assumed.
- 01
Call first
For anything active, calling is fastest. You get a straight answer on timing and what to do right now.
- 02
Isolate the property
Water off at the meter, gas off at the meter, or the hot water unit shut at its inlet valve.
- 03
Make safe
The damage is contained, the area protected and the property left stable before repair options are discussed.
- 04
Find the cause
We work out what failed and why, with leak detection where the fault is hidden in a wall or slab.
- 05
Confirm the repair
Same-visit fix where access and parts allow. Otherwise the second stage is scoped and quoted in writing.
- 06
Repair and report
The repair is completed and tested, the site cleaned, and you are told what failed and what prevents a repeat.
