Gas faults do not improve with time.
Gas is one of the few things that should never be left to see if it gets better on its own. A smell near the cooktop, a heater that keeps dropping out or a hot water unit that will not fire all point to something a licensed gasfitter needs to look at. Measured Plumbing handles gas fault finding, leak repairs, appliance connections and line renewals across inner Melbourne.
The measured part is the testing. Rather than sniffing around a cooktop, the installation is isolated at the meter and put under test pressure, and the gauge tells us whether the system is losing gas at all. If it is, the line is broken into sections until the loss is narrowed to a single run, appliance or joint, and only the pipework that has failed gets opened up.
Testing in that order also rules things out. An installation that holds pressure has sound pipework, which puts the fault in the appliance, its regulator or its flue instead. Once the work is done the system is tested again, each appliance is commissioned, and a compliance certificate is issued where the work is prescribed under Victorian regulations.

Gas work is quoted after the installation has been inspected and tested, because the test decides what actually needs doing. The written quote covers the pipework being replaced, the appliances being connected or commissioned, access requirements, testing and certification, and anything deliberately left out.
Two things move the price more than anything else: how much of the run is concealed, and whether the existing line can carry the load. A leak under a slab or behind finished walls takes longer to section down, and an undersized line means a new run back to a point with enough capacity rather than a repair.
