Plumbing for sites that cannot close to fix it.
A shopfront or a kitchen that stops draining stops trading with it. Measured Plumbing looks after the plumbing behind cafes, restaurants, pubs, bakeries, salons and retail tenancies across inner Melbourne: grease trap installation and trade waste connections, kitchen equipment, staff amenities, hot water and the small back-of-house repairs a trading site runs through every week.
Every job starts with what the site actually puts through its fixtures: the equipment connected, the hours it runs and how much of that load ends up in the waste. That is what sizes a grease trap, decides where it can be serviced, and tells us whether a slow branch line is a one-off blockage or a trap that has stopped separating.
Most of this work is small and time-critical: a failed mixer on a prep sink, a cistern running through service, a customer toilet out of action mid-shift. We confirm the fault and your trading hours before attending, price anything that needs parts before it proceeds, and hand the site back clean and ready to trade.
Front of house to the grease trap.
The plumbing a trading site depends on, from the trap under the rear yard to the basin in the customer toilet.
Grease trap installation
Traps sized to the fixture and equipment load, set where a liquid waste truck can actually reach them for servicing.
Trade waste connections
Kitchen discharge points plumbed through the pre-treatment your water authority requires under the venue's trade waste agreement.
Grease trap repairs
Lids, baffles, inlet and outlet fittings and seals repaired or replaced so the trap separates the way it was designed to.
Commercial kitchen plumbing
Sinks, dishwashers, combi ovens, glass washers and coffee machines connected with the right waste, gas and hot water supply.
Shops, salons and tenancies
Staff kitchenettes, amenities and hot water for shops and studios, plus wash basins and backwash units for salons and barbers.
Blocked kitchen wastes
Fat-choked branch lines and floor wastes cleared, with the cause identified so the same call-out does not keep repeating.
Bar, cellar and coolroom drainage
Floor wastes, tundishes and condensate lines corrected where they run slow, smell or surcharge after a busy service.
Amenities and back of house
Pans, cisterns, tapware and hot water plant across the venue maintained on the same visit, under one record.

Every kind of trading site, and what usually goes wrong.
The trap, the pump-out frequency and the branch drain all follow from what the kitchen actually does now, not what it did when the trap went in.
- 01
Cafes with light food service: a small trap and limited hours, often undersized once the menu has grown.
- 02
Full restaurant kitchens: a high fat load across long services, with a pump-out frequency set years ago and never revised.
- 03
Pubs and venue kitchens: fryers, chargrills and heavy wash-down, with bar and cellar wastes that get overlooked entirely.
- 04
Bakeries and takeaways: constant production through the day, often with a trap installed where it is hard to reach.
- 05
Retail shops and studios: staff kitchenettes, customer amenities and hot water that have to keep working through opening hours.
- 06
Salons and barbers: wash basins, backwash units, hot water and waste for new fit-outs and refits.
Once grease is carrying past the outlet, the branch drain is already collecting it, so the trap and the line get dealt with together. That is what stops the same call-out repeating.

What affects the cost of kitchen and shopfront plumbing.
Access comes first. A trap in an open rear yard is straightforward; one under the kitchen floor, inside a coolroom or in a shared laneway with no room for a truck takes longer to reach and longer to work on. Trading hours matter too, because most venues want the work done outside service, and staging a job so part of the site keeps operating adds time.
For a new trap, the price turns on the capacity required, the excavation, the depth of the existing waste line, whether the floor or paving has to be cut and reinstated, and the water authority's approval process. Repairs that need parts are priced before they proceed. Every job is quoted in writing once we have seen the kitchen and the existing waste arrangement.
Scope, inclusions and exclusions, in writing.
Anything outside what was agreed is priced and approved before it proceeds, so no variation lands on an invoice unannounced.
Keeping disruption to a minimum.
The plumbing is rarely the expensive part. A kitchen that cannot serve or a shop that cannot open is, so the attendance is planned as carefully as the repair.

Something failing mid-service?
A blocked kitchen waste, a surcharging trap or a customer toilet out of action during trade is attended as an urgent call-out, subject to availability.
